After 43 unforgettable years, The Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Restaurant will take its final bow on December 31, 2026. But we’re not finished yet! We still have shows to perform, meals to share, laughter to enjoy and memories to make. Since 1983, you have made the Newport Playhouse more than a theater—you made it a family. We are incredibly grateful to every guest, performer, employee and friend who has been part of our story. Please join us during these final months. Come see a show. Bring an old friend. Laugh with us again. Thank you for believing in “The Little Theater That Could.” We’ll see you at the Playhouse! — Jonathan Perry

Book your partyTo All Our Valued Customers, Guests, Friends, and Members of the Newport Playhouse Family,
It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news that The Newport Playhouse will officially close its doors on December 31, 2026.
Writing those words is extraordinarily difficult.
The Newport Playhouse was established in 1983 and has been a favorite with locals and tourists ever since we first opened our doors. We are a family-run business and we cater to your needs as if you were a member of our own family. Our air-conditioned, handicapped accessible theatre is conveniently located at the foot of the Newport Bridge and has plenty of parking.

Sarah is a nice Jewish girl with a problem: her parents want her married to a nice Jewish boy. They have never met her boyfriend, a WASP executive named Chris Kringle. She tells them she is dating a Jewish doctor and they insist on meeting him. She plans a dinner party and, over the heated protests of Chris, employs an escort service to send her a Jewish date to be Dr. Steinberg. Instead, they send Bob Schroeder, an aspiring actor who agrees to perform the impersonation. Happily, he is extremely convincing in the role and Sarah's parents are enraptured. Soon, even Sarah falls for Bob.
